It is well known that housing problems are strongly associated with problems for children and young people. If a family is experiencing housing difficulties, this can have an impact on the health and well being of children and young people and can lead to increased risk of abuse or neglect.

The Housing Department of Dundee City Council deals with more than just tenancies and repairs.

In Dundee there are specialist teams of staff who work to help homeless families and those families and individuals involved in anti-social behaviour overcome the difficulties they are experiencing.  They and their colleagues have been trained to know what to do if they have a concern about a child/young person or if they are told about a concern.

Many of the staff are not themselves directly involved in working with children and young people but they are responsible for ensuring that if they have a concern, they do not ignore but speak to someone for advise.

Like every other person in Dundee, they have a responsibility to ensure that children and young people are kept safe from abuse and neglect.
