Court Skills Level 3/4
Purpose
This is a multi agency course for practitioners who may expect to be involved in court proceedings and wish to gain an understanding of the processes involved in cases involving the care and protection of children/young people. The course is experiential and participants should expect to participate as required. The course aims to increase the knowledge of participants as to their role and the role of others in relevant court proceedings, to increase participants confidence about attending court as a witness. Participants will also be able tell children/young people and their families more about court processes.
Target audience
Those who may become involved in court proceedings. Potential participants for this specialist course should discuss attendance with their agency child protection training co-ordinator or contact dundeeprotects@dundeecity.gov.uk.
Pre requisite knowledge
Participants will require to have an awareness and understanding of their own agencies child protection policies and procedures and have previously attended an introduction to child protection course
Learning Outcomes
Participants will have a fuller understanding of:
- Their role and the role of others in applications for proof and appeals in the Children’s Hearing system.
- Criminal prosecutions
- Being a witness for—
- the reporter,
- the Procurator Fiscal
- any other party in the proceedings
and what it means for you
- Court proceedings and protocols in general
