In 2009, the Chief Officers established a Child Protection Improvement Team.
In the first instance this team will focus on ensuring that the findings and recommendations from the HMIe report of the inspection of child protection services and from the Hawthorn/Wilson report are acted upon.
As actions resulting from these findings and recommendations are put into effect, the CYPPC will continue to identify what needs to be done next to further improve our services for the children, young people and families of Dundee. And will continue to do so. Development and Improvement will always be on the agenda.
The Child Protection Improvement Plan is an ever-evolving document that provides the blueprint for the work of those involved in improving and developing services. It lists all the tasks and actions that we have agreed are required, along with the details of how those are to be put into place. Progress is continually monitored by both the CYPPC and the Chief Officers' Group.
Because the Improvement Plan is constantly evolving, a copy is not downloadable from this site. However, if you want to see a copy of the plan at any point in time, please speak to your line manager, or e-mail the office of the CYPPC at dundeeprotects@dundeecity.gov.uk.
The CP Improvement Project Team is overseeing and co-ordinating the work of task groups, each focusing on a particular aspect of services. The team is being led by Jenni Tocher, Manager of the Strategy and Performance division of the social work department. The members of the team, who are the chairs of the task groups, are:
| Responding to Immediate Concerns |
Jane Martin, Social Work Department |
| Self Evaluation |
Michael Wood, Education Department |
| Policies, Procedures & Guidance |
Donald MacKenzie, CYPPC |
| Integrated Children’s Services Structures |
Bert Sandeman, DCC Corporate Planning |
| Integrated Assessment & Care Planning |
Lynne Cameron, Social Work Department |
There are a number of 'cross-cutting' matters that are relevant to all of the task group - staff development and training being an obvious example. For that reason, Sally Anderson, CYPPC Staff Development Officer, is also a member of the CP Improvement Project Team.
Two other important areas of development are a) Leadership and b) Substance Misuse Services. Work on the former is being undertaken by the Chief Officers' Group. The development of services for people affected by substance misuse is being taken forward by the Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP), which is chaired by CHP General Manager, David Lynch.
